The National Museum of American History is pleased to announce a series of four master classes focusing on piano repertoire of Spain and Latin America. Four distinguished artists, each concentrating on a different aspect of the repertoire, will present recitals and conduct the classes, which will take place in Fall 2000 and the Museum. The master classes and concerts will be free.
Here are the artists and the repertoire each will present:
The recitals will be held on Friday evenings at 8 p.m. and the master classes will be from 10 a.m. to noon the next morning (in the schedule above, the first date is a Friday, the recital day, and the second is a Saturday, the master class day). Recitals and master classes will be held in the Hall of Musical Instruments at the National Museum of American History, except as listed above. The master classes are open to intermediate and advanced level students of any age. Three students and one alternate will be selected for each class Along with the application form, students are asked to submit a 5-minute audition tape and a letter of recommendation from his or her teacher. The audition tape need not include proposed repertoire for the master classes; it is to demonstate the student's abilites. Smithsonian keyboard specialists and the master class teachers will make selections by the end of July. Auditors are welcome at all classes.
